I’m Kendall Aaron, founder of KOBA-I Audio—an author-first audiobook production and direct-delivery platform built for independent authors who want professional audio, their own storefront, and a direct relationship with readers.
I wanted to make an audiobook. Then my mother wanted to make one too. What happened next changed what I thought independent authors should be able to build for themselves.

I have hundreds of audiobooks in my own library. Audible is still one of my favorite platforms.
When I created Duncan: The Man Hunter, I never imagined it first as a printed book. I heard it—the characters, the atmosphere, the performance, the sound. I wanted to build a story people could experience through audio.
But when I started looking seriously at what it would take to produce and release an audiobook professionally, that was the first time I saw the production side of the medium up close.
The Story Made Sense. The Economics Didn’t.
Professional audiobook production is expensive for good reason. It requires voice direction, studio performance, audio engineering, editing, mastering, and time.
But as an IT project manager and systems thinker, I also looked at the other side of the equation: most independent books sell in relatively modest volumes, making a significant upfront production investment difficult to justify.
I couldn’t make the numbers work for my own project.
I gave up on my dream. My mother didn’t.
I Could Walk Away From My Dream. I Couldn’t Watch Her Overpay for Hers.
My mother, Mary, had written her book and wanted an audiobook of her own. She started getting traditional production quotes. One was around $6,000—and she was prepared to pay it.
I knew what that investment meant. I knew what most independent authors realistically sell. And I knew my mother wasn’t thinking about spreadsheets or return on investment—she simply wanted to hear her book come alive.
That’s when this stopped being an industry problem. It became personal.
So I built for her what I wasn’t willing to buy for myself.
Solving One Problem Created the Next One.
I first built a secure audiobook player for my mother’s website. But solving that immediate need raised the next set of operational questions: How do you protect audio files from unauthorized downloads? How does an author manage a library without technical complexity? How do readers purchase access and return to stream their media? How does an author use transcripts, blogging, and SEO to become discoverable?

I didn’t have a master plan for KOBA-I. I had a mother with a real goal and a habit of looking at the next problem and thinking: I can solve that.
I Like Building Things That Help People Stand on Their Own.
I’ve spent much of my career as a servant leader. My instinct is to solve problems, remove obstacles, and give people enough structure to move confidently without needing me standing beside them.
KOBA-I Audio reflects that worldview. I don’t want authors dependent on me forever. I want to give them capability—their storefront, their media, their pricing, their reader relationships, and their choices.
If an author wants full production help, I’m here. If they want to take what we’ve built and run with it directly, that’s the point.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I hadn’t built an audiobook player. I had built infrastructure around the story.
I Still Build for the Same Reason.
I like seeing people light up when something they imagined becomes real. I like solving the problem that was standing between an author and the thing they were trying to create. And I especially like building systems that let people stand on their own afterward.
That’s what happened with my mother. It’s what I’ve continued building for other authors. And it’s what I want KOBA-I to keep becoming.
